About the Director

Steven Phillips is a remarkably versatile artist with several recordings to his credit as performer, composer, arranger, conductor, coach, and producer. He works in classical, jazz, and popular styles, and serves as Director of Music for First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota. Steven’s organ improvisations are a regular fixture of the services there, to the delight of attenders.

He holds a Bachelor of Music in organ performance, a Master of Arts in Choral Conducting, and a Master of Arts in Religion. In addition, he has done postgraduate studies in piano and jazz improvisation.

“Choral music is a passion for me!” Steven says with a sparkle in his eyes. “When singers work together there’s a beautiful synergy. It’s a visual and aural example of what people can do when they participate in a cause bigger than themselves.”
